About YIBS

Yorkshire Independent Building Supplies came to life on the 4th of April 2003 as a new idea with old fashioned values. An entirely new branch built from the ground up was unveiled and went on to become successful.

It had evolved as the brainchild of David Bean, previously a manager for a large independent company which, after over 140 years trading sold out to a multi-national company .

Having started as a 16 year old from school he had spent the next thirty odd years building an inestimable product knowledge and many valued working relationships with his local trades that had equipped him sufficiently to start an exciting new company from scratch.

David exploited this unique opportunity as a chance to bring the factors that were working in his previous merchanting experience into this new business, but more importantly to address the areas where his customers were becoming increasingly dissatisfied.

His invaluable and already proven team made the transition that much easier and formed the backbone of the new successful YIBS team.

After three years trading, a new site was opened in Brompton on Swale on the 4^th of July 2006 (Yorkshire Independence Day!).  This new branch boasted by far the largest floor and yard space in the area and was designed with the customer's needs in mind. As with Leeming, an experienced team with local knowledge was required, which is developing with the business.
